EMBRACE THE CULTURE! ONE ILOCOS SUR Regarded as the liveliest festival in the province of Ilocos Sur, the Kannawidan Festival serves as a bridge from the enriched past towards the modernized present. Held annually in Ilocos Sur’s capital, Vigan City, its colorful atmosphere and dazzling attraction still amazes the gaze of many tourists. Its name likely came from the Ilocano word “kannawidan”, subsequently meaning “heritage”. Etched into the Philippines history of diverse and bountiful cultures, the Kannawidan Festival serves as a cornerstone for the Ilocanos traditional ways. Becoming a symbol of pride and unity for the diverse people of Ilocos Sur.   Additionally, prominent products and goods can be observed in this festival of ours. The traditional Ilocano empanada and longgasnissa should not be kept from the public. It’s a commodity everyone is free to enjoy, as they bear the pride of traditional Ilocano cuisine. Moreover, tradition doesn’t only come in the form of cooked deligh...

Oxidize, combust, or live…

The human body, an amalgamation of hormones, nerves, and colliding neural pathways. They exist to bring forth an entity: emotion. Emotions such as anger, running your blood hot, or despair, leaving you numb to the cold. Or maybe love, the most powerful one of them all—an emotion that defies confinement to a single plane of understanding. However, as Valentine’s Day approaches, the mere concept of love should not be limited to romanticized affection. All should universally understand that love is diverse, especially to us humans. Every single individual is different. Some may be tough as iron, aggressive as fire, or as fragile as human life itself.     Love can be like oxygen, slowly oxidizing iron, rusting it until decay. Relationships weather the storms of time, and even the strongest bonds may show signs of wear. This rust, however, is not just a mark of weakness. It is the evidence of endurance. Like aged iron, the blemishes of a relations...

It was the start of January, and me and my group members voyaged on to an unforgettable experience. Firstly, we began with brainstorming the general plan executing our research. In here, it would be me being documented rattling my brain on what to do with our methodology.  Then during this time, I also began working on the possible questions to give to our interviewee for our study. I first formulated those questions on paper, specifically on a notebook. Then I transferred it through MS word. Making sure that our questions were comprehendable enough for our interviewee to answer with ease Additionally, our group leader, Miss Castañeda introduced the basic outlook on how are research is going to look like. Parading us to the essential sections, and what tasks we would be given. After this, we took a meeting as a group. Sharing our ideas that could possibly be a step towards accomplishing our goal of finishing our Community Based Research. Then, we visited the town of Tamorong, Sta. ...

To our off-the-sea neighbours

More than a millenium of interrelations to our eastern asian brethren nurturing ties with exchanged goods and valuables. With a little history lesson, everyone would come to understand the main justification of Chinese culture being embroided through Philippines' enriched soul. On the 9th century, the Chinese stepped foot on Filipino soil, commemorating long years of relational commerce and deals. Upon this time, we would continue this friendly relations with our off-the-sea neighbour. Over time, this maritime connection would flourish into something deeper. However,  Chinese migrants relocated their families to the Philippines, primarily due to famine. Because of this, the emergence of Filipino-Chinese born individuals or otherwise known as Chinoys. This led to the interweaving of two diverse roots. Upon cultural assimilation of these two nations, the convergence of Filipino and Chinese foods would now be seen as Pancit( noodles), lumpia( spring rolls) and tikoy (sti...

This School Year is almost 75% complete, and the thorn by my side strikes again. The bottomless heart of a sloth, which had me on its tight relentless grip. I am still unable to escape the escapades of its nature. However, I have no one to blame but myself, the consequences of my lazy attitude is only indebted towards me. However in this 3rd Quarter of computerized activities, I have learnt topics across different learning areas, including stuff like coding while dealing web page designing, along the lines of Cascading Style Sheet or better known as CSS . Which has deeply helped me through structured discipline, and developing myself, by integrating a rigorous activity like coding.             I also learnt various lessons such as the significance of proper collaboration and teamwork. Retaining values with my Community Based Research(CBR) teammates, Kathleen, Avril and Gerchelle. Our journey in this quarter started out with Ma'am...

Cobble and Hooves

" Clack, clack, clack," as I hear the the boney hooves tapping on the rock-strewn pavement. The horses neigh reverberate along the avenues as they pull in the  Calesas . The lively murmurs of crowds, chatting to decide their destination. If you'd ask me where I stood, I'd say this is just another day parading through the timeless streets of Vigan City.       A treasured city tucked away in the heart of the Northern Philippines, renowned for its spanish-colonial times architecture dashed with a handful of Chinese-style construction. As the modern era continues to take over, the unforgettable heritage and culture of colonial times still runs through its trenched canal veins.              In its time of birth, initially founded by Juan de Salcedo , a spanish conquistador during 1572. He named the land, Ciudad Fernandina, a way of honoring a spanish king, King Ferdinand II Of Aragon. The stage was set, the ...
