To our off-the-sea neighbours
After this, Former-President Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino III declared Chinese New Year as a non-working holiday. Thereby letting us Filipinos have the honor of celebrating this destined event. Multiple generations of intermarriage between the two nationalities just kept on coming in this country. The earliest could be traced as far back as 400 years ago at the early decades of the colonial period. As on 1594, there was an observed rise in Chinese communities, especially in Manila's Binondo district. The deep conncetions formed with our east asian neighnour led to the exchange of language and dialect. Influencing each other where we have derived some words in their language to implement into our own. Words such as ginto, susi, and hikaw all having chinese origins. Not only that but, they have also integrated their values( golden rule, taoism etc.), superstitions and strategies in businesses.
Chinese New Year in the Philippines is more than just a celebration of Chinese heritage; it is a testament to the enduring friendship and shared history between Filipinos and the Chinese. It reflects the spirit of inclusivity, resilience, and cultural harmony that defines the Filipino identity. As Filipinos, we welcome the Lunar New Year each year, as we are honoring centuries-old legacy of unity, prosperity, and mutual respect that shall continue to thrive in modern society.
