Oxidize, combust, or live…

The human body, an amalgamation of hormones, nerves, and colliding neural pathways. They exist to bring forth an entity: emotion. Emotions such as anger, running your blood hot, or despair, leaving you numb to the cold. Or maybe love, the most powerful one of them all—an emotion that defies confinement to a single plane of understanding. However, as Valentine’s Day approaches, the mere concept of love should not be limited to romanticized affection. All should universally understand that love is diverse, especially to us humans. Every single individual is different. Some may be tough as iron, aggressive as fire, or as fragile as human life itself.

Love can be like oxygen, slowly oxidizing iron, rusting it until decay. Relationships weather the storms of time, and even the strongest bonds may show signs of wear. This rust, however, is not just a mark of weakness. It is the evidence of endurance. Like aged iron, the blemishes of a relationship can be symbols of resilience and memories forged through trials. Every scrape, scar, and fleck of rust tells a story of persistence and shared experiences.

Oxygen can also serve as a catalyst, igniting flames that burn with relentless intensity. Love, in its passionate form, consumes and overwhelms. It is the fierce spark between two souls, the magnetic pull that ignites desire and longing. Flames can bring warmth, comfort, and light. But love’s fire is unpredictable; it can just as easily scorch and destroy. Burning forests till its nothing but soil and ashes, demanding the rightful price to be paid from those who were ignorant to the danger flames possess. This fiery love demands courage, for only the brave dare to reach into the flames, knowing both the risk and reward.

And yet, oxygen is most essential as the breath of life. Love, in its purest form, sustains us. It is the gentle inhalation of support, the steady rhythm that carries us through even the most fragile moments. Like oxygen coursing through our veins, love nourishes the soul. Whether it be familial bonds, friendships, or self-love, it keeps us alive in the deepest sense. It reminds us that even when life feels delicate, we are held aloft by the unseen yet vital presence of affection.

Love is oxygen—a force of transformation, destruction, and creation. It rusts and refines, blazes and warms, breathes and sustains. This Valentine’s Day, let us remember that love exists in countless forms. It is not confined to romantic ideals, nor should it be. For in every heartbeat, every breath, and every spark of emotion, love reminds us that we are undeniably, beautifully alive.
